The National Board of Physicians and Surgeons
Offering a competitive choice to the confusing and unproven MOC pathway.
ApplyWho We Are
The National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS) provides an alternative pathway for continuous board certification that is less expensive, less burdensome, specialty-specific, and clinically relevant to your own practice.
No one entity should control the practice of medicine; NBPAS fights for physician choice! Become a vital part of the growing movement to end the board "re-certification" monopoly. Without competitive pressure from NBPAS, physicians will lose control of their lifelong learning - permanently. Even if your hospital currently does not accept NBPAS certification or your board certification is not yet up for renewal, please consider dual certification with NBPAS. Your support can make a significant impact.
Accepted by 250+ hospitals and recognized by over 80% of major insurance providers

When Doctors Lead, Patients Win
"Our profession is increasingly controlled by people not directly involved in patient care who have lost contact with the realities of day-to-day clinical practice. I started NBPAS to change that."
– Dr. Paul Teirstein

Chief of Cardiology, Scripps Clinical La Jolla

More about NBPAS Criteria
I am so proud to be a part of this organization and appreciate all of your efforts to make practicing medicine a fulfilling mission again. Keep up the great work!!
There is not much that gives me hope in our Physician world these days, but NBPAS is a bright shining light of hope of the integrity and autonomy of our profession.
Thank you! NBPAS continues to make recertification simple, transparent, inexpensive, and timely.
Thank you so much for being there and representing physicians as you do. The work that you do to raise awareness of the tyranny of the ABMS recertification process and to bring an alternative to hard working physicians who are committed to lifelong learning is greatly appreciated.
I want to thank you for making this available to all physicians! It was an easy process and as a community builder who has a large physician community online, I know so many of us were waiting for this for a long time! Thanks again!
Congratulations Dr. Teirstein. You singlehandedly changed medicine in America for the better. We can never repay you for all your hard work. I thank you and thousands of physicians thank you.
I am a proud member of NBPAS. Thank you for everything you have done for us.
Dropped my original certification this year. I am now solely boarded through the NBPAS. I am so incredibly proud of what this grassroots effort has accomplished and I continue to encourage more physicians to join our ranks.
Thank you very much for the important work you do. I am definitely letting my colleagues know about NBPAS.
